E-Class (W213/C238/A238) [Official] Mercedes-Benz E-Class W213

The Mercedes-Benz W213 is the fifth generation of the E-Class range. Body styles: sedan/saloon (W213), wagon/estate (S213), long wheelbase (V213), coupé (C238), cabriolet (A238). Production: 2016–2023. Predecessor: W212 E-Class. Successor: W214 E-Class, C236/A236 CLE.
I will also say even though the design, technology and features feels more than 2 generations ahead of our W211, the driving experience doesn't feel that much different. I know it isn't a fair comparison, but that 2.0L turbo engine is a step backward compare to our E 350. The 4 cylinder engine has no place in the E class.
The new m264 appears very promising and Mercedes is putting it in the s class as the s350 with 300+16hp

^ Expected around June 16. A larger SCR cat was installed, and needed to be certified. :)

300d finally. Are there any info about 450d or 500d ( around 400hp ) ?
Merc should offer wider range of engines, like BMW does.
They are waited too much with 400d.
But for 450/500d, I would rather go with V8, like Audi with new 4,0 tdi, with 435hp and 900nm from 1000rpm.

Some rumors allege this beast may also come with an I6 diesel. No further details are available, though. As gasser may offer a Vmax of 315 km/h and 640 PS. :)

I just checked the Mercedes German site and it looks like they added a new base model petrol E180 to the range with the same engine as the C180.

Alright day 3 update on the E 200, I am starting to like this car a bit more. For general cruising around town the engine is sufficient, and quiet enough. But once you start to demand a bit more, eg a quick get away, overtaking or to have that feeling of effortless performance, this engine is clearly not up to the task. The 9G gearbox is a little excessive, the car barely get out of 5 to 6th gear on gentle 80km/h cruise.

The overall refinement is excellent, as it should be, road, wind and suspension noise has been kept to minimal. No rattle or creaks from the trim pieces.

The car ride like a Mercedes should in most situation, the car only become slightly unsettled when it goes over the short sharp bumps, other wise the springs and damping was able to handle the worse of what Sydney roads can throw at the car.

The car handles well for its size and weight, the steering is very response, not as sharp as the C class, but it is just right for the E class. There is body roll but it is well contained. I haven't push the car around corners yet, and I don't feel like it unless you guys want me to.

While the interior looks nice and luxurious, the actual quality of the interior falls short, and significantly so in some areas. The inner door panel trim feels cheap and hollow. Also the back of the interior door grab is made from cheap hard plastic, which is actually a big single piece of molded plastic with hollow sections. You can't see unless you look underneath (I will post more photos of that later). The vast plastic trim surrounding the window switches felt cheap and flimsy

Exterior built quality isn't flawless either, just look at this misaligned window sill trim.. not good at all.

I will do a separate write up on the Command/infotainment system next.

Now for some random photos of interesting detail on the car.

Never realized there are wires/antenna embedded onto the clear shield at the front.

New starter button design looks great, but the location is not the most ergonomic.

"Star dust" tail lights do have a very elegant effect at night.

Thanks for this insightful review, glad to hear the car seems overall up to scratch, besides the few quality issues you mentioned. Also is the car on standard suspension and not Air Suspended?

Yes, the car is on standard suspension. IMO, the car is an alright purchase at $85k to $90k AUD, but nothing more.

Thats good to hear as many E Class's are equipped with air suspension nowadays and that the standard one still performs well..

Hey Monster thanks for your review...where is the antenna the pic you posted above ? I am trying to find where that is ?

So would you buy one ?

The wires/antennas probably are defrosters? Isn't there some cruise control equipment behind the logo?

Let's keep in mind @Monster is driving the cheapest E Klasse with very little extra equipement (no airsuspension, no massageseats, no fancy nappaleather, much too small engine, etcetera). Basic E Klasse...

If they are defrosters, they're not functioning right if the snow is falling down. The snow clutters on the logo and freezes. Made that experience personal. Indeed acc radar behind it.

Not sure what they are for, but I don't have them on the shield of my car.

For a properly equipped E 400, it will cost around $145k AUD, so it is similar to a E 200 plus a C 200 on top of that. So far, I haven't seen a high spec E class in the showrooms yet.
