Next 6er will be a GT just like the others before.
More sporty is much needed though, but if they really manage to take away 250 kg off this car, that will all turn out just fine.

The bumper reminds me of an AMG, the greenhouse is too tiny and the character line unresolved.
For the rest it is nice I guess :D ;)

To me that is a fully altered concept 4er Coupe. I do not know the direction it will take styling wise , I know which direction it will take engineering wise because it is aligned with the Toyota-BMW joint sports car architecture.
Yes there will be serious weight reduction because the two companies have all their resources at hand such as a jointly developed Carbon Fibre load bearing structure and Carbon tub. They have positioned the next 6er as a 2+2 allowing hypothetically, space for further expansion if need be.

First official press photographs around mid-year 2017 is probably a good bet.

The new 6er launches in 2017 again Coupe , Cabrio and Gran Coupe.

The first Toyota-BMW collaboration is in 2016 with the Z3 replacement for the Z4.

It is but one of many models that will be announced to celebrate the centenary of BMW AG along with the new 5er - the absolute highlight of 2016 and the M2 Coupe.

Thanks for the info re the next gen 6er.

Of all the exciting projects that BMW has coming up, the next 6er is the one I am most pumped to see. Been driving 5ers for a while now and I am seriously considering switching up to a 6er next time.

Yes it has been eliminated like the new 7er.
Some design ideas come from the Vision future Luxury especially the rear lights which are kind of like the current 6er.
It looks incredible in sketches. It is nothing like that render though.
The new 6er is a by product of the alignment with Toyota. The overall engineering of the joint project is astounding , yet its still going to be within the same price range for what it will feature to make it light as possible.

What will Toyota contribute?

Its a jointly built architecture. The pooling of both our Carbon Fibre expertise brings many advantages to the engineering direction of the cars. The next 6er and its Lexus sibling will feature a high volume of lightweight material technology. As well as CFRP there is high-strength steel , aluminium and magnesium. And that's just the structure and chassis.
Exterior will use Carbon, aluminium and thermoplastic. A Carbon wheel option is also coming soon , but will be available for the 6er.

The 6er will still be a Gran Turismo in the traditional sense but will be more dynamic than before. This is not badge engineering however, both manufactures will take responsibility for engines , chassis tuning etc... The interior for the next car is currently in progress but it mixes the Vision Future Luxury with the sweep of the current car from the console to the upper dash. But further raked back and angled towards the driver , the split screen is also angled towards the driver across the centre and passenger of the dashboard.

So, if the 6er takes the GT route, will the Toyota be more of a sportscar?

Mk3 6er is NOT a part of BMW-Toyota collaboration. Scott, what are you smoking?

Mk3 6er will utilize the BMW "35up" RWD/AWD platform. And will still be a GT - very in-line with the upcoming next ge. 7er & 5er. Just like the current one.
