I turned my sketches into these renders. They look really nice imo. Boxier yet still elegant.

THIS is IMHO simply exceptional.(y)(y) :

A future M-B that I would love to see.

I'd like to see another W201/W124 moment, an abrupt leap into the future without losing anything from the past, but rather gaining legendary attributes showing others the way. Of course, you need geniuses of Sacco's caliber to achieve that. Anyway, I think the time has come for W224 to take that step; anything evolutionary wouldn't be entirely right.

I would actually like M-B designers to retire the "Sensual Purity" paradigm and replace it with an extremely clean, austere vault-like geometrical rigidity that exudes timeless, unpretentious quality. I think that @Uygar has encapsulated this with the second of his most recent creations. Unlike the Vision Iconic, it pushes the right buttons for me. It somehow ticks boxes that M-B designers haven't ticked since the SWB W100 600 sedan. The W100 was presented at the 1963 IAA in Frankfurt. And it has aged so gracefully that it is nothing less than an everlasting classic. It will never be reduced to simply being "an old car".

Why updated Mercedes S-Class faces steeper odds than past refreshes

When the S-Class falters, the company complains: Mercedes-Benz's flagship model was recently being produced only in Sindelfingen on a single shift. Instead of the 90,000 units expected in 2022, the figure for 2025 is projected to be less than 50,000, although Mercedes no longer publishes figures for each model series.

A next-generation operating system and enhanced autonomous capabilities in the automaker's most aggressive attempt yet to reverse the decline of its flagship sedan.

Interesting. Isn’t it normal for it to lose some sales though? At that point the car was 5 years old without any changes. We’ll see how the facelift performs.

Solely based on a shadowed direct side profile silhouette, the W223's design is indeed competent, very handsome and well-proportioned and arguably timeless. The "body-in-white" cannot be reproached. It is the questionable application of the glitz, trim and sensor add-ons and lighting unit stylistic gimmickry that diminish the visual experience IMHO.

This I can get on board with.

There is a messiness and incongruity to the new design details that is very unlike Mercedes and certainly completely out of step with the concept of 'Sensual Purity' .

The fundamentals are beautiful as always. The silhouette, the proportions etc. However there is a lot going on with the headlights, taillights etc. Where some things just don't work.

The same clash of design, or messy resolution of details is also evident in the interior, despite the obvious improvements in certain aspects.

That said, its still the more attractive car compared to its direct German rivals IMO. But, Ill refrain from a more detailed analysis or commentary of this, as we cant have a discussion about design without falling into a fanboy frenzy.

Well said (y)

My personal conclusion, it’s an excellent car, but it’s not mind boggling.

If you don’t need the latest toys, the 222 is probably the better car, especially as a Mopf.

I honestly think the improvements in the ride and NVH of the W223 are notable enough for customers particular perceptive or appreciative of these aspects.

Maybe I finally fall into the S-class demographic, so there are enough improvements with the W223 FL for me to want to upgrade our 223. Particularly if the ride and NVH have been further improved.

As for my dad, there's really no need for anything beyond what the W222 offered. That said he loves the W223 just the same and appreciates the improvements with the augmented HUD, driver assistance tuning and Ui for the central screen.
