Speaking of the 2022 Geneva Motor Show...

There are a large number of declared "no shows" . Audi and Porsche, however, are apparently confirmed.

Well...it appears now that the 2022 Geneva Motor Salon will be a "no go" due to the semiconductor shortage, "no shows" by key manufacturers, etc...

Maybe in 2023 ? Maybe never again. The auto show as we knew them appears to have gone the way of the dodo bird.

What is the feedback in Germany from the recently held IAA?

Mixed reviews with regard to the de-centralized, multi-location venues within the boundaries of central Munich. Much applause regarding product presentations from various manufacturers and BEV start-ups. e-bicycle provider presence was significant.

I am sure I am overlooking something, but in this instance, attributing the semiconductor shortage as to why they are not showcasing their wares seems a bit like a cop-out.

How many chips do you need to showcase an immobile prototype or design buck?

Maybe they don't want such a public forum where there tough questions that might be asked?

Agree. Dubious.

It costs money, especially Geneva. No return on (marketing budget) investment. Simple business.

The chip shortage is causing massive problems in my industry, we just can't deliver products, luckily most of my companies competitors are in the same boat.

WHOA-like out of NOWHERE ! Didn't see it coming, to be honest. Disturbing current events featuring very uncertain possible outcomes, semi-conductor shortage, etc....

Very cool

Maybe the production car won't look that funky-weird after all. And the Avant may very well be THE A6 etron to have. I don't like that rear window lurking under the Sportback production mules' swirlyfoil. We'll see...

...and here we go...:

First sighting of production-bodied A6 etron Sportback mule.

I dunno...It looks funky under the swirlyfoil. Colour me: "So far, a bit...disappointed".

Have Audis' design department dropped the ball on this ?
I'm happy with the shape. It doesn't look like a blob. A lift back would be a lovely bonus.

To a degree this is to be expected as manufacturers are prioritizing aerodynamics. It'll look more athletic than an EQE but meh.

Definitely looks more like a blob than is typical for Audi in my eyes.

The shorter dash-to-axles and longer front overhangs have me unhappy :( Also the split headlamps.. why?

I don't think it's double headlights. Looks more or less like a straight stripe of fog lights/DRLs beneath the headlights. Besides this is the first prototype.

Yes, my sentiments as well.

The 3/4 rear view of the Sportback prototype reveals what may very well be a "chunky, square featured" automobile that is, unfortunately, less graceful, less coherently designed than the concept car. And I really do not care for the ovoid form of the rear window, much preferring the stringently angular solutions such as that of the current A7 Sportbacks.

On a more optimistic note, the soon-to-be unveiled A6 Avant etron concept looks quite promising in the darkened silhouette images posted previously. That leads me to suspect that the actual production A6 etrons will not look too ungainly after all.

Still a bit disappointed so far. I was expecting better.

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
