The SL53 makes a lot of sense for Europe and markets like China, Thailand, Singapore, and Malaysia where taxes are tied to engine size(displacement). The V8-equipped SL55 is most probably a US-only model at this stage. Also, I remember some AMG guy once remarked that the in-line 6 engine is not a "true" AMG engine.
I want it like that, new SL, new beautiful color, for everyone to see me![]()
Should be a looker in this color for sure.

Mercedes really should have found a niche for a true AMG version of the I6 with 500hp. I'd be happy with that in a SL55 instead of a V8 if it means that we can still have V8s and I6s in other vehicles instead of I4s.

A true AMG engineered 6-inline would definitely bump heads with the V8 in terms of power output.
The M253 is in a good position to power the AMG Sport Package models in the MB line-up.
The M253 inline 6 turbo (429hp) with the 9-Speed 48v starter-generator would make for a great entry-level SL here in the US.
heck, they are already doing it with the S500.
But since they are listed in the US stock exchange aren't they obliged to give full information about everything that could influence the price of their stocks? When Scheimer said that last month there was a bunch of internet chatter but no further elaboration from MB. I don’t think we’ll know the real answer until this is resolved.
The original R&T article has more details including a dubious official statement from MB.Has anyone read the reports of Benz having quality issues with their V8 ? Apparently it’s not a supply chain issue.
Maybe they are busy designing a newThe original R&T article has more details including a dubious official statement from MB.
The fact they are being so secretective about it and emphasize "retesting" and that it affects US market only, makes me think, it is highly likely that it is emissions related.
It's a good looking car but the headlights are straight from the CLS which is a little bit predictable
I don't think this is smaller. It just looks smaller.Yesterday I saw the current SL, and it was good to realize how huge the car is, unfitting for its purpose, like an S coupe wannabe. I’m glad to see a smaller, lower and sportier SL, as it used to be
