Quattro/S2 Audi Quattro Concept

Yupp. Co-sign.

I just want them to make this car!! Why oh why are the so no-go on it? It's probably the concept that got the most attention out of all Audis concepts, together with Le Mans and Nuvolari.
$ € This is today more importentnot to make cars that we enthuisasts waiting for. Same thing with BMW M1 or any true sportscar from BMW and the CS Concept.

Sad but in the current climate not unexpected. The markets are shifting away from traditional models towards something a bit unique, BMW seen this before anyone else and are consistently ahead of the curve IMO.

The numbers speak for themselves do they? It's hard for Audi to look at the sales of the Cayman and FT86 versus Evoque and X6, and forgo the option that will please financial analysts and bonus loving executives, especiallyin times of a close race between BMW, Audi and Mercedes.

That may be true, but if brand appeal drops, people wont buy their crossovers. There still requires to be a balance.

The best car IMO, they won't build it. I'm so angry about that. Believe me I'd pick that over an M3 or even a Cayman, and you all know how I love the M3 and the Cayman.

Oh I believe you, you walk around with an Alfa avatar here, so why wouldn't I believe you?

Allow me to LOL, though.

Obviously, the Audi board has communicated that there is no business case for this car. I've heard that somewhere before... :eusa_thin

BMW?
But unlike MB, BMW and Audi are smart and actually know what they do....

Oh please, if it costs more than an R8 GT what would be the point? Only people would buy it who already have much better, faster and more expensive cars....

So, you still think that engine displacement has nothing to do with the handling performance? Dude... seriously. You can't except any Audi to handle like the R8. R8 is in it's own league. Sure the RS4 B7 handled well, but not as near as good as the R8. When you have the engine in the front, that much in front as Audi has, you cant expect a car to handle like a mid-engine car. An M3 handles good cause if the RWD and a better engine placement in the front. But still, again the R8 is another league. Compare it with 458 italia or Gallardo, but not with an A3/S3. Seriously man..

I have lost the tread of the discussion. I don't know what we are talking about.
So what is handling? Handling depends on some precise factors. Some of them are can be tuned afterhand, others are determined since the beginning and cannot be improved, of if they can, they bring other disadvantages. Again what is "good" handling depends on the purpose of the car. But in the case of sportscar these are the main factors that have to be design from the beginning:
- center of gravity
- center of mass
- vehicle mass
- chassis ridgidity
- aerodynamics
Tuning would be:
- suspension
- steering
- engine
- transmission
- wheels

Of course the Quattro will never be an R8 in terms of center of gravity and center of mass (weight distribution), but in all the other points it can be as good, and will have an advantage in vehicle mass. The R8 has good stearing feel? If yes, so Audi knows how to do that, and they can also do that for the Quattro. Here some specs.

The Audi Quattro Concept is on 997 GT3 level, below R8 straight line performance. But knowing how fast some TT-RS are, the Quattro is some serious machine, capable of out doing the R8. The reason I think Audi decided not to make it.

One reason is why Audi doesn't build a Sport Quattro - because then Audi have to use very expensive materials, and for that the pricetag goes up, higher than the R8.

Next R8 is also to use expensive materials. The Quattro Concept doesn't have CF chassis, "just" body panels, compared to next generation R8. And like SSD hard-drives, so CF price will go lower. Price of CFRP is because of manufacturing, not because of material itself. Once China will get skilled workers, they will be able to drastically lower the price of CF.

Yes, and other reason is, because production is limited to 200 units for the Sport Quattro, and those expensive materials, magnesium, carbon, etc. Too bad its not gonna happend.

Yes, but again I see no reason of limiting the production. Let is just be instead of the TT. TT is already overpriced for a nothing but a "Golf". Let this be an Audi R5, the smaller brother of the R8.

You guys are just torturing yourselfs. Audi is not gonna make this car, no matter how much we all want it.

Audi quattro would probably be made by quattro gmbh. And this division has too much work now. But it does not have to explain the cessation of the project. It is likely, that the quattro is a big competitor to other company models.

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
